Which taureg to take with mileage. Do you like glamour, or are you in the mud? We are looking for differences between the Volkswagen Touareg I and II generation. Air suspension - problems can not be avoided

Thanks to the collapse in prices in the used car market, cars that many could only dream of before are now very affordable. This cup has not passed and SUVs, good copies of which can be purchased at the price of a "stuffed state employee."

An "advanced" buyer knows that a powerful engine, a solid appearance and a comfortable interior are only the visible part of the iceberg when purchasing a used car. Much more important is how much the operation of cars can become, the wheels of which have run more than one hundred thousand kilometers. Each node and part in the machine has its own resource. As practice shows, many cars of the mid-2000s can no longer boast of the reliability and unpretentiousness of their predecessors from the 1980s and 1990s, who sometimes nursed millions of miles without major repairs.

People who specialize in their repair and maintenance know better than anyone else about the realities of operating used cars. That is why I turned to specialists whose bread and butter is the repair and maintenance of Volkswagen SUVs.

The first and main stumbling block is the Touareg engines. "Voracious" gasoline 3.2, rare in our latitudes 4.2 and 6.0, dynamic 3.6 and, of course, much more economical and high-torque turbodiesels with a working volume of 2.5, 3.0 and 5.0 liters. Let's start with them.

It would seem that a 2.5-liter turbodiesel that is simple and unpretentious at first glance, which many owners reproached and reproached for the lack of power and traction, in fact remains so only up to a mileage of 250,000 km. Further, in 80% of cases, problems arise with the cylinder head, the main cause of which is cracks in the oil or fuel channel. Sometimes a crack can be welded with argon, but there are no guarantees. Buying a new cylinder head (cylinder head) in neighboring Poland will cost 2,000 euros. And this is for a bare head, and another $ 500-600 will be taken for work.

At the same mileage, both the alternator and air conditioner clutches will require replacement. The issue price is about $700. Every 150,000 km on this engine, it is recommended to change the rubber cuffs on the nozzles. Otherwise diesel fuel gets into the oil, which adversely affects the camshaft resource. A repair kit for one nozzle will cost the owner $10 for Bosch or $25 for the "original". We multiply the figure by five and add the cost of work to it ($ 100 / 5 nozzles).

By the way, the cost of the original camshaft is $ 1000, the resource is 200.000-250.000 km. "China" is half the price, but there the resource is only 50.000-70.000 km.

Another characteristic "sore" of the 2.5 TDI engine is the tandem pump. Its resource is exhausted at a run of 150,000 km. The main sign of failure is the engine and gearbox in diesel fuel. Hence the car fires. The issue price is $500.

Turbine survivability in almost all Touaregs is directly dependent on the quality of the oil: save on it - get ready to replace or restore the turbine. The issue price is $1500 for the turbine or $300 for its restoration plus $100 for removal/installation work.

A "snotty" valve cover is another expense. Her gum can last up to 100.000-150.000 km, then problems begin. The elastic band is not sold separately, the lid assembly costs $300.

The 2.5 TDI injectors do not cause any particular problems. And if there is a need to replace them, then everything is relatively inexpensive: $ 300-350 is a new nozzle, $ 120-150 - "used".

3.0 TDI engine with fuel system common rail reputed to be more reliable and unpretentious among the people, no one complains about its traction and power characteristics. But even here not everything is so rosy. The weak point of the 3.0 TDI is the intake manifolds. In them, already at runs of 150,000 km, plastic breaks in the area where the damper axles are attached. The right one fails first. throttle valve, then left, then center. The repair cost is $500, $500 and $250, respectively. Total $1250. And this is in 80% of those who come to repair cars.

With a run of 200,000 km, the 3-liter engine starts having problems with the EGR valve: its cooler flows, after which the electrical part fails. The issue price is $ 1000, and only a specialist should make a replacement, otherwise you can break firewood.

Not so often, but the 3.0 TDI still has problems with fuel equipment. The fuel pump body is aluminum and the plunger is steel. If the pump fails, as a rule, almost all Common Rail elements need to be replaced: nozzles, sensors, ramps. The replacement price is $5,000. Attempts not to change, but to restore failed nodes are not widespread. As, however, it is impossible to speak about the massive nature of the fuel pump malfunction itself (20%).

There are no established statistics on the resource of four timing chains: someone has 500,000 km of chains, someone has 200,000. The replacement price (labor + spare parts) is $5000.

Crowning the line of Volkswagen turbodiesels is a 313-horsepower 5-liter power unit with a torque of 750 Nm. For V10 locomotive traction, the owner has to pay, pay a lot. In addition to fuel consumption of 15-20 l / 100 km, this machine, with intensive use, requires monthly injections of $ 800-1000. Among weaknesses 5.0 V10 - right tandem fuel pump, right turbine, generator and air conditioner clutches. The repair cost and resource are the same as in the 2.5 engine.

6-cylinder gasoline engines 3.2 and 3.6 in part characteristic faults practically do not differ. At the same time, it is better to prefer the latter for buying. The most expensive items in gasoline "sixes" are the replacement of timing chains ($ 5000) already at a mileage of 150,000 km, the replacement of the muffler corrugations (in the "original" with a catalyst) at a mileage of 100,000 km ($ 1100-1200). However, here you can save money by installing corrugations without a catalyst, which will cost up to $100-120.

On 3.6 engines, along with the chains, the oil pump also changes in 80% of cases.

Almost all Touareg gasoline engines are very critical to engine washing, after which the likelihood of ignition coil failure increases sharply.

Gasoline Touareg with 4.2 and 6.0 engines are rare guests in our area. Their prices in the Russian Federation are sometimes much lower than the modifications mentioned above. This is not at all accidental, since the repair of such power units in most cases is carried out with the removal of the motor, road parts, and the work takes a lot of time.

In transmissions Volkswagen cars Touareg frankly there are no weak points, with the exception, perhaps, of the propeller shaft outboard bearing. Its replacement costs $250, and it is better not to restore anything, but to install a new one.

It goes without saying that the options with "mechanics" do not have a permanent grip. It requires replacement at runs of 150.000-200.000 km. In the dual mass flywheel version, the replacement will cost the owner $ 1,500 using original spare parts and $ 800-900 if using LUK units. But you need to remember that the "non-original" lives less - 80.000-100.000 km.

There are no problems with automatic transmission either, only 3-liter turbodiesels have issues with automatic transmission control harnesses, which get oil from the box. Everything is "solved" by replacing the harnesses and seals. If the automatic transmission is broken, the repair will cost $2,000.

Sometimes in gasoline 3.2 and turbodiesel 5.0 it starts to buzz front axle. The reason is the bearings. Of the four bearings, two are Polish, two are Japanese. In the early stages, it is "cured" by replacing the bearings ($ 250), in the later stages - by replacing the bridge.

Even at 5.0, the wiring of the transfer case motor may fail. The asking price is $50.

Machines with optional lock rear axle also suffer from poorly laid wiring. It needs to be transferred, but the issue price is already $750.

Suspension costs in the Touareg correspond to the vehicle class. With intensive use, it is required to "intervene" in it once a year. Replacing the rear silent blocks ("license") will cost the owner $ 500 with work, the front ones, taking into account the subframe - $ 600-650. Moreover, the silent blocks of the subframe must be original.

If you want to replace the front arms, add another $700, rear - $1200.

The air suspension in the Touareg, contrary to prejudices, is quite reliable and very comfortable. You just need to keep an eye on the fittings. One fitting costs $100. They fail, as a rule, once every two years (two winters).

Sometimes suspension level sensors fail. In this case, you will have to fork out for $150 apiece. Even less often there are problems with the compressor - $1000.

Common problems with all Touaregs include problems with electrical harnesses in the area of \u200b\u200bthe legs of the driver and passenger. The reason is that falling into this zone in winter time moisture. You can avoid trouble by preventing moisture from entering these areas. Otherwise, everything will end with the replacement of harnesses.

In conclusion, it is worth noting that, despite the considerable list possible repairs, Touareg is quite deservedly popular with buyers. His classmates require no less, and sometimes significantly more cash injections with runs over 200,000 km.

Strange as it may sound, but my interlocutors, who have brought more than one Touareg back to life, were asked about their preferences in the variety of offers of this Volkswagen models the market responded that this is unambiguous diesel versions with 2.5 TDI and 5.0 TDI engines. By the way, that's what they ride. As for the malfunctions mentioned above, the recipe is simple: the lower the price, the more thorough the diagnosis should be. Low prices don't happen out of the blue. Having bought such an SUV at a low price, you should not expect that you will service it for a penny or with your own hands. Therefore, you need to be willing to pay if you want to enjoy the car, and not admire it from the window.

Cars from Volkswagen Corporation to this day are seen as just an ideal acquisition. But in fact, everything has long ceased to be as good as many believe. Many of the concern's cars turned out to be not the most successful, they received a lot of unsuccessful equipment, which the owners are forced to simply constantly repair. This causes a certain change in the reviews of these cars. Of course, this fact cannot but affect the rating of the manufacturer. But all the negativity falls on mass cars, but they prefer to remain silent about the premium class. The large Tuareg crossover is quite different good reviews in all their generations. Loving him both new and used, they buy for a family, for business, for long trips and for other purposes. In the competitive range, this SUV has quite a few market bestsellers, but to this day the car holds high positions in sales.

However, it was not without problems this car. Especially serious problems arise if you buy a used car. This is Russia, choose here good car used is very difficult. When it comes to the premium class, the complexity increases. Often these cars are well serviced, driven to service stations on time, stored in garages and covered parking lots. But the modes of operation are ruthless, and the first owner knows very well that he will soon change the car to a more modern one. Therefore, the car is operated “to the holes”, and then it is prepared for sale and is actively sold on secondary market marked "perfect condition". Today we will look at exactly where to look when buying a used car, as well as what factors of childhood illnesses should be assessed. Volkswagen Touareg it is better to buy new, but if you decide to buy a used car, be sure to consider the following recommendations.

1. Air suspension - problems can not be avoided

In many versions and configurations this car installed air suspension with a large number of options. This is an interesting feature, but the maintenance of this node on German car will cost a fortune. You may argue that such a suspension does not break, but this is true for cars up to 200,000 km of run. Then there will be expenses. Problems may be as follows:

  • one fine morning you may find that your iron horse began to hobble - fell on one wheel, tilted due to the failure of the rack, which is very expensive;
  • pneumatics is connected to the diagnostic system, so the car could unexpectedly report problems with the suspension and give an error requesting to contact a service station;
  • pneumatics react poorly to cold weather, problems with low quality fittings were noticed on the first models, poor tightness of the suspension system appeared;
  • the compressor that pressurizes the pneumatic modules also failed on many cars older than 5-7 years, and this is a very expensive part that only needs to be replaced.

Problems with air suspension are no longer relevant for new cars. Its design is completely different, and the quality of work has been greatly changed. This means that when buying a Touareg in the cabin, you will not run into trouble in the form of expensive repairs chassis. But it is better to buy a used car with spring suspension options. Let it not be so comfortable, but it is reliable and inexpensive.

2. Twisted mileage is a problem for every second

The owners of a premium car are well aware that with a run of over 300,000 km it will be impossible to sell a car for good money. Therefore, on every second Tuareg on the market, mileage is significantly twisted. Only officials can determine the intervention when connecting computer diagnostic equipment. It would seem that the twisting of the run is not so terrible. But in fact, this factor has such features:

  • a German SUV requires a certain quality of service, each MOT is unique, certain spare parts are replaced according to the regulations, so that when twisting, the service will be disrupted;
  • all parts and mechanisms have a certain resource, so the owners usually prepare for repair or replacement for a certain mileage, all breakdowns will be a surprise for you;
  • oil change intervals - when winding up the kilometer counter, no one thinks about future maintenance, so you can miss an important moment with regular maintenance;
  • a car with a mileage of 350,000 km is already a lottery, and when you buy a Tuareg with a mileage of 150,000 km, you actually get new car without any problems in operation.

Therefore, the question of mileage remains open. Many owners recommend using even the most expensive means of checking the real mileage of the car to make sure the data is original. Often the master at the service station, when diagnosing the suspension, engine and other parts, can easily determine the approximate mileage. When buying such a car, you should definitely go for a good diagnosis.

3. Bad diesel fuel - the death of diesel technology

German cars with diesel engines today are considered the most reliable in their segment. But the first and second generation Tuareg with a diesel engine turned out to be not so positive in terms of quality of operation. The car works confidently on good fuel, but when refueling at an untested gas station, it causes a lot of trouble and problems. Here are just a few of them:

  • the fuel pump breaks - this makes it impossible to drive the car until the malfunction is fixed, in this case the pump simply changes to a new one;
  • nozzles get clogged - this is a normal problem for all the first Touaregs with diesel engines, you will have to clean the fuel system often, and this is an expensive procedure at the service station;
  • the V6 TDI engine more or less copes with such a problem, but when refueling low-quality fuel, consumption can double or even more, and the system will malfunction;
  • the fuel filter becomes clogged, it is rather small, so after a few refuelings with low-quality diesel fuel, the filter ceases to perform its tasks, this is a big problem.

If you have bought or are going to buy a VW Touareg of the first or second generation, you should be careful about the choice of refueling. Especially it concerns diesel units, which are quite serious about the purity and composition of the fuel mixture. Otherwise, you will become a regular guest of the service station, and the high cost of services will lure more and more money out of your wallet.

4. Poor chrome finish and decorative details

Another problem faced by Touareg owners after 5 years of operation is decorative. There are quite a lot of chrome parts on the body and in the interior of the car. They often begin to fade and peel off after 5-6 years of using the machine. This is very strange, given the eternal chrome elements on the Trade Winds of the early 2000s, for example. You may also experience the following problems:

  • the car very noticeably loses its attractiveness of appearance, the paint on plastic parts can fade and peel off, the top layer of varnish on the paintwork is overwritten, the shine disappears;
  • with frequent washing, already at the 5th year of operation, the paint begins to show the first problems, and this is very unlike Volkswagen, since cars did not have such diseases before;
  • chrome parts not only fade, nothing can be done with them, you have to change them, ordering very expensive new decorative elements from the officials;
  • the decor in the cabin also often falls off, plastic elements fall out, inserts of other colors and textures, but the manufacturer attributes this to poor-quality roads and a sloppy trip.

In general, the car is assembled with high quality, but there is absolutely no confidence in the little things in it. This is rather unusual, since we are used to the perfect attention to the most small details from VAG. If you take a Tuareg with a pretty high mileage, then you can hardly avoid the need to repair decorative elements. This is an important warning to all potential buyers of such vehicles.

5. Gearbox - reliable, but you can kill

When buying a new VW, there are no problems with 8-speed automatics and other boxes guarding the Touareg. But used cars, especially with a significant age, are distinguished by a huge number of malfunctions in this unit. The problem is that the machine initially cannot serve as long as mechanical box. Quite often the following problems occur:

  • shocks when shifting gears, which occur when the internal equipment fails and wears out, the repair is quite expensive, it will cost at least 1000 euros for the service;
  • weird errors on the screen on-board computer, which indicate the failure of the parts of the box, the electronic control unit often breaks down, which is not easy to replace;
  • the box may stop working spontaneously, unpleasant sounds often appear in it, extraneous hum, crackling when switching and other troubles that indicate an imminent breakdown;
  • far from all masters undertake the repair of an 8-speed automatic and other automatic transmissions, since the box is quite complicated, its design makes it possible to make good repairs only at branded service stations.

AT last years Volkswagen has done a lot to ensure that car buyers can only be served at official stations. There are many specialized service stations in Russia with cheaper services, but this does not save you from significant repair and maintenance bills. Gearbox features should be considered before buying a car. It is important to drive the machine in all modes and check it on computer diagnostics.

We offer you to watch a video about a used Tuareg and the features of its purchase:

Summing up

Modern cars always pleasantly surprise the owner with comfort, give excellent opportunities for a comfortable trip. But they do not always guarantee high quality and long-term operation. When buying a used Volkswagen Touareg, you become a hostage to circumstances, forced to be serviced at a narrow circle of stations, and buy rather expensive spare parts. But the service for the car will not be needed too often, the car is reliable and successful in its design. Tuareg owners confirm that with moderate use of up to 300,000 km, regular maintenance alone can be enough.

However, many of the used Touaregs on the market are quite dead. These cars are sold either when buying a new generation, or after receiving extremely unpleasant bills from the service. The first option is preferable, so it is best to buy a used SUV from a friend. If you know the history of the car, you can easily predict possible problems soon. Pay attention to engines. It is often better to buy basic units without complex fuel technology. In the case of used cars, this is the best choice. What do you think about the possibility of buying a used VW Touareg?

Volkswagen Tuareg of the first generation appeared in 2002. Production of the mid-size business class SUV continued until 2010. In 2006, the off-road vehicle was updated, having received a new radiator lining, front optics, engines, and refinement of some systems.

Tuareg is the first crossover of the VAG concern. Trying to compete with the successful Bavarian opponent, the engineers applied the most progressive solutions of that time. In many ways, this contributed to the success of the model. But progressive does not mean better. Being more affordable than the BMW X5, the Volkswagen Touareg turned out to be no less "capricious" in terms of reliability. Numerous design miscalculations and “corrals” of electronics forced Tuareg owners to visit far from cheap car services more and more often. After restyling, Volkswagen engineers managed to rid the Tuareg of a number of diseases, but not all of them. In general, the Volkswagen Touareg is a good car that combines German style, a high level of comfort, relatively powerful and economical engines, as well as strong off-road ambitions.

Engines

The first generation Volkswagen Touareg was equipped with petrol and diesel engines. Petrol are presented: V6 with a working volume of 3.2 liters (220 hp, from 2005 - 2006 - 241 hp) and 3.6 liters (276 hp - from 2006), V8 4 .2 l (310 hp, and since 2006 - 350 hp) and W12 6.0 l (450 hp - since 2006). Diesel - in-line R5 (174 hp), V6 3.0 l (225 and 240 hp) and V10 5.0 l (313 hp, and since 2007 - 350 hp). ).

The 3.2 liter petrol engine has a timing chain drive. It would seem that the eternal chain of lovers to "squeeze the last" stretched to 150-200 thousand km. Under normal operating conditions, many owners, even with a mileage of more than 300,000 km, did not think about replacing it. When the chain is stretched, an informational message does not always appear on the on-board computer display, so many owners are not even aware of this. But the consequences can be sad. Stretching the chain leads to wear of the teeth on the sprockets, it may “jump” or even break. Warning signals will be an increase in fuel consumption and a decrease in engine thrust. The most accurate way to determine the need for replacement is with the help of diagnostic equipment in paragraphs 208 and 209, which displays the phase angle. Its value should not exceed 8 degrees. You can replace the timing kit only on the removed engine. By price official dealers the cost of the original timing kit is about 90-100 thousand rubles, and the replacement work with the removal of the engine is about 20-30 thousand rubles. The cost of this procedure when using substitutes and contacting ordinary car services is 2-3 times lower - about 40-50 thousand rubles.

Cars from the American continent are more sensitive to fuel quality than their European counterparts. What does “Check” tirelessly signal on dashboard and the error of insufficient catalyst efficiency. Flashing the engine ECU to a more recent “software” in most cases solves this problem, however, not all official services agree to update.

The 3.6 liter FSI engine on the restyled version of the Tuareg is considered more whimsical than its predecessor. Poor-quality fuel more than once led to the destruction of the rings and the appearance of scuffs on the cylinder walls. This motor, like the younger 3.2 liter, requires control over the “ignition” angles in order not to miss the moment of critical stretching of the timing chain. There are also cases of broken chains. The timing kit can only be changed on a removed engine.

The 4.2-liter V-shaped "eight" is considered quite reliable, but there are cases of scuffing on the cylinder walls. The engine has a timing belt drive, with a recommended replacement interval of 10,000 km. The cost of a new timing kit is about 10-12 thousand rubles. But not everything is so smooth. The camshafts of the heads are chain driven. Due to improper installation of the timing belt tensioner, the camshaft chain tensioner may “die” - more often the left one. The result is costly repairs. The appearance of a problem will be indicated by noise when starting a cold engine, similar to the knock of hydraulic lifters.

Diesel engines also have their own characteristics. The in-line five-cylinder 2.5 TDI is driven by gears. The pre-styling BAC suffers from shedding of the cylinder wall coating. In the early stages, identifying the "disease" is not easy. Over time, thrust decreases slightly, oil consumption increases, and a large amount of crankcase gases appear from the dipstick tube. With the final verdict, you will have to replace the motor (used about 180-200 thousand rubles), or perform a sleeve. Post-styled BPE is not prone to such problems and is generally considered more reliable. With a run of more than 100,000 km, the exhaust manifold often cracks. This reduces power, increases fuel consumption, and soot appears in the engine compartment. After 100-150 thousand km, it may be necessary to replace the valve stem seals. Clubs of gray smoke at startup and increased oil consumption will tell you about this. The cause of difficult starting is often “tired” pump nozzle seals. As a preventive measure, regular cleaning of the throttle assembly is necessary, and every 150-180 thousand km you will have to change the overrunning clutches of the air conditioner and generator.

The 3-liter V-shaped six-cylinder turbodiesel with a cast-iron block has a timing chain drive. By 150-200 thousand km, as a rule, the chain stretches, and the crankshaft rear oil seal begins to “snot”. On diesel engines of the CASA series of the pre-styling Volkswagen Tuareg, there were often problems with the high-pressure fuel pump, which began to drive chips. The pumps were changed according to the action within the framework of warranty repair with washing all fuel system. Even after replacement, a new high-pressure fuel pump could fail again. There were occasions with the throttle assembly - plastic gears wore out with a run of more than 100-150 thousand km. A new damper will cost 10-12 thousand rubles. The BKS series diesel engine has a more reliable injection pump. The motor is characterized by wedging of the damper servo. With a run of more than 100-120 thousand km, problems often appear with the intake manifolds due to traction wear. After the restoration of the flown traction, everything repeats after 10-20 thousand km. The intake manifold will have to be changed - 12-15 thousand rubles.

The top ten-cylinder turbodiesel with a working volume of 5.0 liters is the result of “gluing” two in-line five-cylinders. In terms of reliability, the performance of the motor is ambiguous. For example, the timing mechanism is driven through helical gears. Seemed to be a solid design. But no! There are cases of destruction of one of the gears. One set of new gears alone costs about 200-250 thousand rubles, and the cost overhaul 400 thousand rubles!!! In such a case, it is much cheaper to buy a contract motor for 100-120 thousand rubles. In addition, by 100-150 thousand km it often requires replacement or repair - a turbine (about 170 thousand rubles) and an air conditioner clutch (about 60 thousand rubles). To replace the units will have to lower the engine. One nozzle for such a motor costs about 25 thousand rubles, and filling capacity engine lubrication systems - 12 l. There have also been cases of scuffing on the cylinder walls. Operation of this power unit- the pleasure is not cheap, and the Volkswagen Tuareg turns into expensive toy. In addition, in tandem with such a motor, the transfer case and the “automatic” develop their resource faster. The engineers had to strengthen transfer case and cardan shaft on vehicles manufactured after 2004.

Transmission

Volkswagen Tuareg was equipped with 6-speed manual and automatic boxes gears. "Mechanics" is very rare. The box is unpretentious, the clutch resource is about 150-200 thousand km. "Automatic" Japanese - Aisin TR-60SN. With a run of more than 100-150 thousand km, many owners begin to notice the appearance of shocks / kicks when switching, and by 150-200 thousand km they become stronger. The reason for all the troubles lies in the transmission fluid, supposedly designed for the entire service life. As a result, the oil loses its properties, and the valve body fails. A new valve body costs about 40-60 thousand rubles, the replacement work will require another 5 thousand rubles. Changing the oil at the first sign of a malfunction may save you from shocks and delay the date of the "death" of the box. The subsequent fluid renewal interval recommended is 40-60 thousand km. Sometimes it is possible to get rid of unpleasant shocks and rough switching of the box after updating the software of the “automatic” control unit.

On Volkswagen Touareg, assembled before 2005, there were often problems with the transfer case due to incorrect operation of the servo motor. When cornering, the Touareg twitched, as if it were jerking. Incorrect processing of commands by the motor led to the stretching of the plate chain of the multi-plate clutch drive in the transfer case. In the early stages, the "bug" of the motor can be cured by flashing the control unit for the operation of the handout. If it doesn’t help, then the motor will have to be replaced - about 20 thousand rubles. In the worst case, the transfer case is waiting for a sentence.

With a run of more than 100-150 thousand km, the front gearbox may buzz. Replacing bearings will require about 15-20 thousand rubles. The appearance of vibration on the steering wheel when accelerating or releasing gas, as well as noise / hum in the speed range of 80-120 km / h, indicate the failure of the differential. As a rule, a malfunction appears after 150-200 thousand km. By the same time, it is necessary to change the propeller shaft outboard bearing due to wear of the rubber damper. The original bearing costs about 4-6 thousand rubles, and services charge about 7-8 thousand rubles for the work on replacing it. But you can get by with a similar unit from other car brands for 1.5-3 thousand rubles.

Chassis

Volkswagen Tuareg was often equipped with air suspension. The resource of air springs is more than 200-250 thousand km. The price of the air spring and shock absorber is about 30 thousand rubles. For comparison, an ordinary suspension strut assembly with a spring costs about 15 thousand rubles. The weak element in the pneumatic system is the valve fitting, which is easily corroded. The cost of one fitting is about 2-4 thousand rubles. The pneumatic system on cars manufactured after 2005 is considered more reliable. A new pneumatic system compressor costs about 30-45 thousand rubles, a repair kit for it costs about 4 thousand rubles. Most often, the compressor shuts down due to blown fuses or relays.

Bushings and stabilizer struts nursed about 40-50 thousand km. Two bushings will require about 4 thousand rubles, and about 2 thousand rubles more will be asked for their replacement. Silent blocks of levers go about 100-150 thousand km. The cost of the front suspension arm is about 8-10 thousand rubles, the rear suspension is about 5-8 thousand rubles. Front wheel bearings serve about 100-150 thousand km. A new bearing will cost 3-5 thousand rubles, and the work to replace it will pull another 3,000 rubles.

Rear brake calipers Volkswagen Touareg with a 3.0 TDI engine until 2008 is often sour due to piston corrosion. Piston spraying corrodes with road chemistry. The problem manifests itself with a run of more than 80-120 thousand km. A new caliper costs about 10-15 thousand rubles.

Body and interior

The galvanized body of the Volkswagen Tuareg is not prone to corrosion. BUT paintwork although thick, but on the chips it flies off in pieces and the varnish is severely damaged. Bare metal blooms after a while. Problem areas– license plate niche, railing attachment points, wheel arches, attachment points for rear lights, side members, rear brake light attachment. Blisters are found on the doors, trunk lid and rear fender.

Touareg without headlights after overnight parking, unfortunately, is a common occurrence. Thieves often take advantage of the technological ease of removing headlights in order to resell them. Some owners try to secure the headlights with steel cables, but this leads thieves to use a more vandalized method of removing the headlights with damage to the car.

In cold weather, there are often problems with door locks. Yes, and the mikriks of door locks themselves often fail due to wear on the pressure cams. In this case, the correct indication of the position of the doors is violated, and the alarm is not armed. Dealers are ready to give a new lock for 7-9 thousand rubles, and another 1.5-2 thousand rubles will be needed to replace it.

The windshield wiper drive mechanism often turns sour. The wiper motor unit may also fail due to water ingress into it. At the same time, the windshield wipers either stop working or begin to twitch in convulsions.

There may be water in the trunk for several reasons - the drainage is clogged or the sealant seams have dried out in the trays of the fifth door shock absorber body. Water can get into the cabin through loose railings. On a number of cars, the headlights often sweat. The reason becomes clear after its removal - the sealant is laid poorly, not along the seam. During washing or rain, water may enter the AFS (Adaptive Lighting Unit) and damage it. The new block costs about 9 thousand rubles.

Salon is not prone to squeaks. "Crickets" may appear in the front panel after its disassembly. The back can "sound" rear seat. The buttons in the interior of the Volkswagen Touareg are coated with a rubber-like material. By 150-200 thousand km, they are pretty wiped, slightly spoiling the picture of a solid interior. On restyling, such button coverage was abandoned.

Often the handle for removing the handbrake is damaged. A new one from dealers costs about 800 rubles. Slight pressure on the foot lever parking brake it is enough that less force is applied to the handle, and it does not break. Over time, the foot parking brake pedal stops returning to its original state. The reason is the failure of the gas shock absorber (1-1.5 thousand rubles).

The side windows of the doors stop moving due to a break in the cable of the drive mechanism. The cost of the window regulator assembly is about 3-4 thousand rubles.

The supply air fan of the cabin air fails due to wear of the copper-graphite brushes of the electric motor. A new fan costs about 10 thousand rubles, but you can replace the brushes and the motor will come to life. As a substitute, trimmed brushes from the Volga starter are suitable. The stove motor begins to whistle due to the ingress of road dust on it and the wear of the front bushing. The dampers of the distribution of air flows also fail, while they begin to click, and air of different temperatures comes out of the deflectors. Dealers in such cases replace dampers for 15-18 thousand rubles.

Other problems and malfunctions

Electricity is a weak side of the Volkswagen Touareg. The system strictly monitors the slightest deviation of at least one indicator from the set parameter and immediately informs the driver about it. But often the system is mistaken or even “fools” for no reason. Battery discharge is a real scourge. Often the leakage current cannot be found.

The pillow malfunction signal may appear on the panel for no reason. Someone is helped by a simple removal of the error, while someone has to repeat this procedure repeatedly. But there are cases when the signal continues to burn. Nervous owners have to go to extreme measures - insert a 2 ohm resistor into the circuit. True, the pillows no longer work.

The monochrome display panel has a "bug" - the influx of lines on top of each other in the "COMFORT" menu. The low-pitched horn burns out frequently. The original one costs about 4 thousand rubles, but you can install any other one. Due to the ingress of moisture into the connector, parking sensors begin to “fail”, and soon they completely fail. The cost of one sensor is about 2-3 thousand rubles. Chinese discharge lamps often finish xenon ignition blocks. The problem is less common on the restyled Tuareg model.

Conclusion

The acquisition of a used Volkswagen Tuareg of the first generation can hardly be considered a lottery. A thorough inspection will save you from unnecessary expenses in the future. You can be sure of one thing for sure - most malfunctions rarely appear on one car, and even in a crowd, and possible problems are predictable, well studied and solved. True, they require some financial investment. Therefore, an extra hundred thousand in reserve will allow you not to worry too much about tomorrow. The pleasure and comfort of driving more than cover the cost of maintaining the car in good technical condition. So say the owners of this German SUV.

Let's be frank. If you need an SUV, and not just an urban "popovoz" with the function of export to nature, then the VW Touareg, even with 4XMotion, is not at all the best choice. It's not like he'll get bogged down in the first puddle. No. Just the same, with cross-country ability, he is in full order. Simply, the forest is branches, snags, a winch, a broken cable, broken bumpers, etc. It's a pity to bathe in puddles of an expensive handsome man stuffed with electronics. Brutal, I would even say "wooden" Mitsubishi Pajero in this path will be much more harmonious. It will cost less, it’s cheap to maintain, and there are fewer “killed” cars on sale. Well, or Nissan Patrol, since there is absolutely no way without a minimum level of comfort.

You can also drag the illiquid "Korean" here Kia Mohave. Mercedes "Italian-American" Jeep Grand Cherokee in all respects it is similar to the "German", while it is beautiful and extraordinary, but the choice of engines is small and it will be much more difficult to sell it - it is illiquid. If Touareg maintenance costs didn't scare you, then maybe you should take a closer look at the used "British" Land Rover Discovery - it will definitely kick all the “extra” money out of you, while driving you into a trance with a lulling air suspension.

Owner reviews

Great car. I started with a gasoline V8, skated more than 100,000 km on it without problems. Then I decided to try a 3.0-liter diesel engine, drove another 100,000. Also without problems, although I was very worried about the quality of our diesel fuel (I refueled only at Lukoil or BP).

I drove to Astrakhan and Karelia - everything is fine. By driving performance You can't compare the Volkswagen Tuareg with anything: the engine is chic and importantly economical. Power reserve 1,000 km. The most important thing is to serve according to the manufacturer's requirements.

The car is good, if not for some shortcomings. For the first MOT you need to pay about 20,000 rubles.

The main disadvantage is 11l. diesel fuel per 100 km on average. Although on the passport they write almost twice less. The rearview mirror covers a lot of space.

I have had a Tuareg since 2008, 224 horses diesel 3.0, a problem-free car. For 240,000 km in the box changed valve stem seals and a harness (this is a cheap repair), for 160,000 I changed the lower levers in the front end and rear shock absorbers, changed for 180,000 upper arms and all.

In terms of comfort, the new VW Touareg is very comfortable. Sat on it after the Pajero 3 (Tuareg an order of magnitude higher and more comfortable), 6-speed automatic. The truth is eating up on the highway normally 9.2-10.5 (how to drive), in the city 10.5-12.2, again, how to drive. But that suits me just fine.

Sometimes there is not enough pickup to the engine, but from a place it is very good, fast and powerful. Another drawback is the air dampers, enough for about 40,000 km, after a small repair and not expensive, you can extend the life by another 20,000.

Nice car, premium entry. But “German quality and reliability” is alien to this brand of car, despite the fact that I drive their “flagship” car ...

Tuareg is not reliable (breakage of the air suspension with a run of 2,000 km). Expensive to maintain. Voracious. Cross-country ability is not an SUV. Only 2 years warranty.

Of the benefits - an impressive view and dimensions. Dynamic on the highway and in the city. The suspension adapts to the road. Spacious.

The car is cool, moderately fast and beautiful, but it's a SUV. Having tried it once on the road, I try to go around difficult places more. It's just a car with high ground clearance!

If you ever go off-road on the new Tuareg, then think twice, because it will probably cost you a pretty penny. The point is that on front bumper there is a spoiler underneath. Fuck if he was needed there ... Well, this crap rests on a couple of clips and breaks in flight. Moreover, the mount near the wheel breaks, and at speed from the wind it is erased against the wheel. Changed it twice already. Terribly annoying. I plan to take it to hell!

The next minus is the operation of the rain sensor, it feels like it is not there, but it seems to be there)) The sound in stock with the RNS-550 radio is complete squalor.

I will compare mainly with my previous KIA Sorento. Appearance: in my opinion, Tuareg has one of the most harmonious exteriors. Especially in R-Line body kit and on big wheels. There is absolutely no desire to change anything. I don't even want to tint.

Salon: there is a lot of space inside, and with a height of 190 cm I can sit very comfortably in any of the four places (including myself), except for the middle seat in the back, it is uncomfortable due to the too high tunnel. All controls are conveniently located, the only thing that is not convenient is the control unit for external lighting devices, it is located to the left of the steering column.

Engine: when I first started driving, 249 forces seemed incredibly vigorous, I think in contrast to the Sorento. Now I'm used to it, there is no longer any delight, but I have more than enough.

The eight-speed automatic transmission works quite quickly, the sports mode is especially interesting - in it the engine even holds high revs to always be able to pick up sharply, very satisfied. But there is also negative moment- basically, I don’t know what it depends on, the box switches VERY smoothly, like a CVT, but sometimes there are very unpleasant tangible pokes, I can’t remember such on the Sorento.

Air suspension - that's just a miracle! I was very afraid to buy a car on 20-inch wheels, I thought it would be tough, but this is not about Tuareg on pneuma. Small bumps, as well as large bumps and pits, pass very comfortably.

Headlight. It's just a song. It shines VERY brightly and where it is needed, it is enough even on wet pavement. It's also adaptive.

Review of Volkswagen Tuareg 3.6 (249 hp) automatic transmission 2016

Mileage is currently 2,400 km, while only pleases. ICE 204 hp, when buying they said it makes no sense to overpay 120 tr. for 245 hp Like, for 20 tr. move on later.

Interior trim leather, but not nappa, for the men of the rules. Audi's wife, she took nappa - softer, more pleasant. The front seats are adjustable in all possible positions. My height is 192 cm and weight 115, very comfortable. Pretty quiet in the cabin, fender liner with some kind of wool.

The speakers are enough without flashing: S-mode and the pedal is deeper. The finish seems to be premium (aluminum, wood and soft plastic). The tank is 100 liters, and the computer writes that it lasts for 1,020 km. Filled up and forgot. Gasoline was not considered for these reasons. The dynamics are almost the same.

With regards to reliability, relatives have 2 such vehicles for about 5-6 years. No questions, consumables and all. The assembly of my car is not Kaluga. Purebred "fascist" (although he waited 3 months).
